Community Service
At Lifework, we are working hard to bring the message of early defibrillation to our community. We have held heart health education programs for sixth graders, taught high school seniors to be CPR instructors, and have placed AEDs in many area schools. Lifework sponsors several Friends & Family CPR clases each year. We encourage our instructors to volunteer in community activities.
Baltimore Heartsafe Community Task Force
In 2005, Lifework teamed with Baltimore City leaders to form the Baltimore Heartsafe Community Task Force. Downtown Baltimore employs more than 90,000 people and has 22 million yearly visitors. It seems a natural setting to improve public safety with trained citizen responders and access to AEDs in locations where people gather.
Committee members include survivors of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, representatives from the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, the American Heart Association, Baltimore City Fire Department, Baltimore City Health Department, Baltimore City Police Department, Bank of America, and other corporate and community leaders.
The task force mission is to improve the survival rate for victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Baltimore by developing a cohesive community initiative that encourages access to and implementation of early defibrillation programs within the business and public communities.
